Degree or no degree? That is the question!

Following a false start at university, I finally found myself on track to pursue graphic design and began studying HND Visual Communications. Following a successful two years, I received an offer to progress to art school in Dundee to complete my degree. However, I also found myself with the offer of a job. Long story short - the job won!

This led to a two year period spent as a Trainee Sign Technician & Graphic Designer, proving to be invaluable experience and a great insight as to how designs are manufactured into anything from shop signs and window graphics to vehicle wrapping.

While I loved my job I knew the manufacturing industry wasn’t for me and I wanted to explore the corporate world. I moved to a new position as an in-house Design and Marketing Assistant for a recruitment agency. Throughout my time here, we were regularly complimented on the work we were producing which led to us identifying a gap in the market for these services. Ten months after starting at Genesis Personnel, I went into partnership with my Managing Director and together we created Studio Four - a local design and print studio based in Peterhead.

For the last 5 years I have been running the studio and it has been an enormous learning curve. Not only have I been the sole designer in the business, I was responsible for the day to day running of the studio, marketing our services and also client account management. It has been such a fantastic chapter of my life and I have learned so many new skills and insights into the world of business. While it was not the anticipated end to Studio Four, it was certainly the right time and I am ready to explore new opportunities in my next adventure.
